Your responsibilities in isolation

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES IN ISOLATION

Please remember: The University is no longer conducting contact tracing. Unless you are a residential student, it is unlikely you will receive notification from UNC Charlotte that you are a close contact of someone who tested postive for COVID-19.

Classes: You should reach out to your instructors directly to discuss missed classes and classwork. Faculty members will not be notified by the University; this is your responsibility. You may forward them the email you received indicating you need to isolate. It is your choice how much medical information you choose to disclose. However, your instructors may require documentation for your absence from the classroom.

Work: If you have a job, you should reach out to your supervisor directly to let them know you are isolating and will be unable to come to work.

Family Notification: Because of federal HIPAA protections, the University will not notify your family you are in isolation. However, you are encouraged to share that information with them.

Monitor Your Health: Monitor your health closely. If your symptoms worsen or you feel like you need medical care, call your healthcare provider or the Student Health Center at 704-687-7432.

Stay put: You should stay away from other people and leave your location only to seek medical care.

Notifying your supervisor: Based on your health check completion, your supervisor may receive an automatic notification that you have been instructed to remain at home. However, you should still contact your supervisor directly to discuss your circumstances and how work will be covered in your absence.

Monitor Your Health: Monitor your health closely. If your symptoms worsen or you feel like you need medical care, call your healthcare provider. If your symptoms develop into a serious medical condition, please reference the online FMLA application to apply for FMLA. In an FMLA situation, a fitness for duty form may also be required to return to work.

Stay put: You should stay away from other people and leave your location only to seek medical care. Reference the COVID-19 HR Information webpage for information on accounting for work time missed.
