Mpox is a rare disease that is not easily spread and is rarely fatal.
It requires close contact for transmission
Mpox is transmitted person to person through close, personal, often skin-to-skin contact, having contact with an infectious rash, through body fluids or through respiratory secretions.
You can take steps to prevent it
Individuals can take basic steps to prevent the spread of mpox.
Seek help if you have symptoms
If you have an unexplained rash, sores or other symptoms, please talk to your healthcare provider, even if you don’t think you had contact with someone who has mpox.
Vaccination is recommended in certain cases
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends vaccination for people who have been exposed to mpox and people who are at higher risk of being exposed to mpox.
