Dear Niner Nation,

We are looking forward to welcoming you back to campus very soon! I can’t believe how fast the summer has flown by. I hope you found time for some rest and fun over the past few months.

The start of a new academic year always brings excitement, but it also can bring anxiousness. And that is in a routine year. While this fall may be the closest we have been to returning to our post-pandemic lives, it is still not routine.

We are now taking a more endemic approach to COVID-19, but it remains part of our daily lives. We are hearing more about other viruses in the news. The elevated cost of living is affecting many people. Lots of things are in short supply, including patience as everyone in our community grapples with the exhaustion the past two and a half years have brought.

As we enter the new academic year, I encourage you to take good care of yourself. Get good nutrition, appropriate exercise and plenty of sleep. That will give you a good foundation to work from, but make sure you are taking care of your mental and emotional well-being, too.

If you need help this semester, please ask for it. There are multiple resources on campus to assist you.

You will also find updates on Niner Nation Cares about how we will continue to manage COVID-19 on campus; our response to monkeypox and other health and safety efforts. We will keep this website updated as we progress through the semester, so please check back often.

I am excited about the year ahead, and I hope you are as well. I wish you a successful, productive and balanced semester.

Go Niners!

Sincerely,

Sharon L. Gaber

Dear Colleagues,

I can’t believe we are already gearing up to welcome our students back for the start of the academic year — the summer has flown by. I hope you found some well-deserved time away.

The start of a new semester always brings excitement, but it also can bring anxiousness. And that is in a routine year. While this fall may be the closest we have been to returning to our post-pandemic lives, it is still not routine.

We are now taking a more endemic approach to COVID-19, but it remains part of our daily narrative. We are hearing more about other viruses in the news. Additionally, the elevated cost of living is affecting millions of families. Lots of things are in short supply, including patience as everyone in our community grapples with the exhaustion the past two and a half years have brought.

As we enter the new academic year, I encourage you to lead from a place of grace, including and perhaps most importantly, with yourself. As every airline tells you — you must secure your own oxygen mask before helping others.

Please take a moment when you need one, or take a day to recharge when you feel yourself wearing thin. It is why our leave exists. Yes, it’s for personal appointments and family vacations, but it is also for your health, which includes your well-being.

You will also find updates on Niner Nation Cares about how we will continue to manage COVID-19 on campus; our response to monkeypox and other health and safety efforts. We will keep this website updated as we progress through the semester, so please check back often.

Together, we have accomplished so much, and we have big things ahead of us. I am fortunate to work alongside such talented and dedicated colleagues. I wish each of you a productive, healthy and balanced year ahead.

Sincerely,

Sharon L. Gaber
